Grand Prix coming to downtown St Petersburg

Grand Prix racetrackEach night when I drive past this section of the Grand Prix racetrack (not blocked off) I'm tempted to step on the gas and race away ... but I don't.

Some of our downtown streets and part of our downtown airport become the Grand Prix racetrack each year. The first weekend in April is this year's race.

From an illuminated night parade to autograph signings, from an air show to a gala, there's lots to do that weekend.

The first of the megayacht has already arrived - those who join the weekend Yacht Club can moor at the floating docks and watch the races from their deck or from a luxury box seat. There's a "village" for RVs as well.

Come for the noise (though they say it will be quieter this year), the parties, or the excitement of the race ... downtown St Petersburg Florida will be an exciting place to be for that first weekend in April.

Sharon, that does look like a great opportunity to drive really fast!  I admire your restraint!

Hi Sharon, The Grand Prix would certainly be fun to have a video cam along. Do you go to the races? Bet it would be a blast and noisy, lol.

Sharon,

Thank you for the info about your area. Sounds like fun. Bring some ear plugs. I am sure it will be noisy.

Pat - I'll let you try it, but not in MY car.

William - I've watched several years of racing and prefer to watch from one of the condos on an upper level of Bayfront Tower. I can be on the balcony and hear the noise, or inside and watch with a bit more quiet through the floor to ceiling windows, or catch a closeup on the big screen TV. At ground level you need huge ear protectors.

Angela - see above.

Russell - we need to mix pleasure and work or we become very dull.

Bill - it is. Come down and see.

We used to have the Grand Prix in Long Beach California, it was fun.  Since I moved up North I haven't thought about it in years.  vroom, vroom.

Sharon I am sure many feel the same way; that urge to drive fast.  I remember when I was commuting when I hit the Taconic State Parkway  some times I would get that urge but didn't.

The Grand Prix must be exciting to watch.

Darn, Sharon, I wish I had seen this sooner.  I'm passing it along to some folks who might still be able to make it there.  Thanks!
