After many years of not being able to know where your child will be assigned to school for any given address or neighborhood in Pinellas County Florida, it's refreshing to have a simple School Zone Locator - just type in your address and your zoned elementary, middle and high schools will pop up. The Pinellas County School Board site also has an elementary zone map, and information on magnet and fundamental schools. The deadline is fast approaching to apply for magnet, fundamental and career academy programs - applications must be in by Monday, February 16th.

Hi Sharon, there was a hugh law suit against an agent who verified school informaiton on the internet. The school district had changed the addresses assigned to a particular school and there was a delay in changing the information on the internet. A family bought a home and then discovered it was not in the right school district. Law suit. Beware!
Miriam - that's a good example of why we should be "the source of the source" rather than "the source".
I am never the source. I recomend site and back it up with contact the school to make sure. Then I say remember if you are buying your home for a school dristict remember that they can change.
All good points thanks for reminding us again what we must tell our clients.
Why would someone not be unable to verify a school district? Is it common in your area to change the boundaries frequently?
Susan - yes, it's always sensible to have them check for themselves.
Debbie, changing school enrollment has changed district lines, and so has closing some schools. Further, we just switched a year ago from bussing to neighborhood schools. Then it depends on whether a school has room.
Sharon, the school system just changed from CHOICE to neighborhood schools already this year, and now have changed again. Students 4 miles away are being bussed to the middle school here, while students 1.5 miles away within walking distance of what was their neighborhood school this year, are now reassigned to another middle school 3 miles away. Those of us that bought homes less than 2 miles away to be at the best neighborhood schools are now seeing our kids bussed across the bayous and lakes to schools with less than stellar reputations. Anyone within 2 miles of the school should have been assigned to that school. What happened to feeder patterns, saving fuel $$$, etc. They should have left things alone and let kids go to their close-to-home school as they did this year. They have changed the school assignment system 3 times in 3 years. Ridiculous.
JJ - Thanks for your comments! For several years it has been very difficult to know where your children will be attending school. Having constant changes is traumatic, to say the least.
