And On My Desk Is ...

Magnifying Glass

And what is on my desk?  It doesn't have a name - it's my magnifying glass. And yes, even though I wear reading glasses, sometimes I need a Magnifier as well.

This sits quietly on my desk until it's needed. It's perfectly practical, and useful - and in between uses it sits quietly, not interrupting me at all. It even volunteers as a paperweight sometimes.

Naturally I like its function, but I also like its style - its shape, and its color. The claw at the end surrounds a silver globe - and reminds me of the feet on our antique partners desk (not the one I use every day - it's my husband's desk, even though he uses it to pile things and to store his "tv" (aka computer) while he really works outside on the lanai at the circular table there).

Perhaps it could also serve to reflect the bird or the fish, if it were required to keep company.

Sharon~

So much fun to get this from you...Loved the photo, and it got me thinking of how UN-cluttered YOUR desk must be!..Mine, on the other hand....has every nook and cranny dedicated to "something"...It seems to me that all of it is important..but  your zen-like desk reflects pure possibility...and what's more important than THAT?

that's the coolest magnifying glass I've ever seen...and my favorite color.  Hi Sharon!

I have to agree with Karen that is the coolest!

I have never seem a magnifying glass that looks anything like that.  Very interesting piece.

janeAnne - it was easy to clear an 8" square space on my desk to take the photo. Otherwise, it's only clean when I do the periodic Must-Clean-Now attacks. Otherwise paper spreads like kudzu.

Karen, Ashley and Randy - glad you like it.  My favorite things are ones that appeal to more than one sense - in this case, touch as well as sight.  I could have bought a matching letter opener, but sometimes too much of a good thing takes away from the impression. I have other letter openers I like, but this was a unique magnifying glass.  I have to resist the temptation to take it with me when I go to conferences and classes.

Chris - thank YOU for the idea.  The responses have been fun.

Sharon your extra eye glass is not only very appealing, but appears to be a good weapon if necessary!

Good thought, Kristal. I haven't had to use it as a weapon yet.

Sharon, this post is very helpful in understanding you and how you work.  One great part of this community is the ability to learn and think like other great professionals.  No, I won't need a magnifying glass right now, but I do have some oddities on my desk.  Do I need them?  Why are they there?

Steve - most of us need something unique and individual around us to keep the human side present.

Sharon, I bet the magnifying glass could come in handy to clear the paper on your desk with. Poof up in smoke

I can't believe Chris Elizabeth didn't give your little glass a name.

It's not mine to name!

Dena - maybe she needs to see, touch and feel it first.

Chris - does that stop you?

Fine.  Vi - Short for Elvira.

Hey Chris, you are really very good at naming inanimate objects. I like Vi, what do you think Sharon?

I think Vi works well. Thanks to both of you, Chris and Dena.
