Martha Brown posted earlier today about "I guess I better bring the cow" and that brought to mind a recent offer on one of our listings:
the buyers wanted a boat included in the sale.
Now, that's not all so unusual in Florida, when the buyers see a boat behind the house, but in this case it was strange because there was no boat behind the house. In fact, the sellers would have to buy a boat in order to convey it to the buyers.
I thought this was pretty ridiculous, but once the sellers slept on it, they thought that would make sense, because they could actually use the boat until closing.
So, this was a reminder - never answer for your clients, and don't presume that you know what they'll decide.

Hi Sharon,
Good grief, a lesson learned for sure. How would have thought!!
Sharon - hmm, interesting story. But as you say you just never know. I always tell people they can ask. I had a listing where the owner had a gorgeous sports car that the buyers were interested in. He decided no but we at least talked about it.
Jeff
Hal - one thing you learn in this business is that there's always something new!
Jeff - exactly - they can always ask. You never know what will come of it.
Sharon, we see lake homes being sold with boats and furniture here. But, I have never heard of this... But, hey I agree "don't EVER answer for your sellers." EVER, EVER, EVER !!
That is a surprising story... about the seller's decision. But you are right, never presume to know what your seller or buyer will say to a request!
Wow...that was pretty cool....yup...never good to assume and ALWAYS confer with the client FIRST. Good one Sharon!
(p.s. thanks for the call today!)
Sharon - This is so true, I have seen sellers agree to things I was sure they wouldn't.
the worst that can happen is they say no.... kinda like asking for the car keys when we were young
Missy - that's something we learn with experience.
Shirley - it sure surprised me.
Sally - couldn't miss such a great opportunity to call - and thanks for your surprising call today!
Jennifer - so often an answer depends on a particular moment - what they say today or tomorrow or yesterday may be different.
Thesa - good comparison. You never know unless you ask.
