Be Careful What You Blog About

One of the benefits of blogging is the google juice, and that people searching for a topic can find us.

The correlary of that is that people will contact us about what we blog about - so, if you blog about something, that's what people may call you about.

Blog about equestrian properties, and expect to be contacted by people looking for equestrian properties. Blog about first time homeowners, and expect to be contacted by first time homeowners.

In effect, what you blog about is what you're asking for.

So - be careful what you blog about, you may get it.

Hi Sharon,

So true. One of earliest learning memories on AR was someone writing about short sales. Afterwards she said she wouldn't write on them again she had been contacted and did even want to do them!

Neal - I look forward to seeing you in November, too.

Lynda - exactly the point!

Sharon, I learned that the hard way when I was a new blogger.  I wrote two posts about foreclosures and started getting contacted.  That's when I figured out that I don't want to specialize in foreclosures!!  Not a peep out of me on that topic since :)

Sooo true, Sharon. I learned that about short sales, adn a few other things. And it can only take one post. I know of a number of folks here who have got more than they bargained or hoped for. But sometimes what we blog about does NOT yield the results we hope for.

Laurie Manny shared this same thought at Inman on the panel. She blogged on short sales all the time, and got calls on short sales. Then changed to Luxury homes and is now getting calls on luxury homes.

Great advice, you are the expert in what you blog on.

Sharon - I agree - this is so true - if there is a niche you don't want to working, don't write about it.  Because google thinks you want it if you write about it.

Sort of like "be careful what you wish for you just may get it".

Maybe I should start blogging about selling million dollar properties or winning the lottery.

Lisa - thanks for the great example.

William - hopefully your blogging about proper ethics will bring you ethical clients.

Jeff - so true. Some things in life work only in one direction.

Missy - is that an example of "perception is reality"?

Steve - everyone wants to work with an expert, so they look to the person who's blogging about it.

Christine - exactly!

Colleen - unless the lottery reads blogs, perhaps you should limit the blogging to selling million dollar properties ...

I guess I may be in trouble.  I have written about hard to sell properties, unethical agents and difficult sellers.  LOL

Randy - of all three, I'd be most concerned about attracting sellers of hard to sell properties - they probably think you're the expert and will hire you!
