Is google green?

Though I've never called it a green company, it certainly has some of the characteristics - trying to make life better for its employees - encouraging a healthy lifestyle, providing healthy food. It's even cutting down on the number of cars on the highways and corresponding energy waster. Google provides busses for about 1,200 employees, and furthermore - the busses not only have leather seats and wireless Internet access, they run on biodiesel.

I never thought about an internet company being green, thanks for bringing it to attention.

I learn something new about google practically every day. I am quite impressed with the company and employees. I have always had a good customer service experience when contacting google. Thanks for the story.

They contribute to earth friendly tv stations such as PBS as well.

Angie - from all the things my son in Silicon Valley tells me, it's no wonder that people are beating down the doors to work for google.

Dan - I didn't know that.  Thanks.

Gary - it's always good to start a day learning something new!

They also buy carbon offsets.  And they could be a bit greener if they changed from leather seats to fabric.  Leather comes from cows, and animal husbandry is the biggest polluter of any other industry on the planet.

Just the number of people that work from home, with the assistance of Gooble, minimizes the number of cars on the road.

Sharon, what in the world are you doing up so early in the morning?

You need some sleep gal; have to be sharp out in Albuquerque next week.

You were an inspiration for me to post today.

Hi Sharon...Glad to see your post featured.  Yesterday I test drove a Segway and TALK ABOUT GREEN!  They get the equivalent of 450 miles to the gallon.  It was a lot of fun and I can see some real estate related applications.  More on that later (I have some really cool ideas about their use).

Sharon - from the information I have on Google, it sure sounds like the type of place I would like working at. And it would nice if more companies would follow Google's lead as to how to treat employees.

Just another reason to support why Google is my favorite search engine.  This was interesting to know.  I've read some articles about how well they treat their employees.

Mitchell -  goo goo to your ga ga

Randy - that's yet another approach. And don't forget those early retired milionnaires (the ones in their 20s and early 30s) don't need to commute either.

Carole - it IS great to work where the company encourages creativity and "off-track" parojects rather than stifling them.

Ed - I wasn't up early, I was up late.  I can catch up on sleep in Albuquerque. Ha!

Jay - Segways are fun. Sid Minor brought his to a CyberProfessionals meeting a few years back and we all got to ride it up and down the hallways of the hotel. He's used it for great publicity for his business.

Jennifer - you're right. We often find small companies that treat their employees well, but not too many huge ones do.

Lola - they're my favorite search engine, too - and toolbar for the internet. I love that they keep innovating and coming up with new ideas and programs, without charging us for "Upgrades".

Google has always tried to do things differently, I think in a socially responsible manner, like how they did their initial stock offering. They get the way things need to be and are moving in that direction. Now how many other companies can we rate up there with Google?

Bill - speaking of google stock - I like that they aren't pandering to the analysts, but making decisions smartly based on the future of their business.
