Tropicana Field adds curb appeal in St. Petersburg, Florida

St. Petersburg, Florida:  The Tampa Bay Devil Rays have been changing things since Matt Silverman took over. The prior owner of the Devil Rays didn't care much about the public, and they responded in kind. Since ownership changed and Silverman came on the scene, the team and its owners are reaching out to the public. Fans are welcomed and encouraged. Parking fees went away, food prices came down, renovations took place. This year the Devil Rays will be adding a quarter of a million dollars in landscaping near the entrance of Tropicana Field. The improvements will not only be seen up close, but also from the interstate. The landscaping was designed by a local landscape designer, Phil Graham, and will educate fans about natural ecosystems and water conservation, and features nearly 50 varieties of native plants. Every plant will be tagged. Thanks, Devil Rays, for adding curb appeal.

Sharon, since all of the baseball teams whose home stadiums are in the north go to warmer climates for spring training, where do baseball teams whose home stadiums are in warm climates go for spring training?

I probably would not be having wierd thoughts like this if it was not facing 20 degree weather here in Fredericksburg Virginia.  I envy you (and my bride who is down in Ft Myers at this very minute).

The Devil Rays have always done their spring training here in St. Pete at Al Lang Field, an outdoor field overlooking Tampa Bay. They have just concluded a deal, however, to do their spring training further south in Port Charlotte, hoping to draw in additional fans from that area. Don't know what will happen with Al Lang Field, where I always preferred to watch the games.

Good old Lou Pinella left our Mariners for your team! We have never been the same since his departure. We miss him terribly.
