New real estate terms

There have been many posts about abbreviations

Why we shouldn't use them in ads or in posts

    Definitions of terms

If we don't know what a wbfp or eik or siso is, how do we expect customers to?

I'd also like to compile new terms that I see being coined:

garagemahal  -  pretty self-evident; a house where garages dominate the front of the house.

solana - less obvious; it's a covered outdoor space that looks/feels like an indoor living room or salon.

Any interesting new terms that you've come across?

Abbreviations, acronyms and such are usually trade inspired. Everyone, maybe not everyone, knows the "lingo". However no agent should ever make the assumption that trade lingo is known by the public.

If your to lazy to spell it out, you are also probably having trouble making a living in this business. The general public becomes involved in real estate about once every 5 years.

David - that's very true. Even with real estate lingo, it varies by area of the country. One of the benefits of marketing a property on the internet is that you have virtually unlimited space to properly describe the home.

When we were house shopping in NC a few years ago we kept running across FROG in the listing data sheets... Feeling foolish we tried to figure it out but finally had to ask... family room over garage.  Duh!   I haven't heard garagemahal yet but I'm going to have to share that one.

Gosh, there are lots of them. FP fireplace is one. FDR Formal Dining Room. PVT Private. HWF Hard wood floors. But Garagemahal, I love it !!

How ironic I read this post... I had TWO calls yesterday asking about abbreviations. Both callers told me they were not looking at MY ad but the ad on the facing page. Both callers told me they did not want to call the actual ad owner.

I had to really think about the one: PFA

What?

Turns out to be very simple: propane forced air

Why make this so difficult?

Jesse and Kathy - I wouldn't have known what a FROG was either.

Barry - each region has their own. Most of us would assume FP is fireplace but in some areas I guess it could also mean Front Porch.

Debbie - I never would have guessed Propane Forced Air. That's my point - if agents don't know, how can we expect the potential buyers to know?

Sharon - I like the KISS idea (keep it simple stupid) - we tend to make it too complicated - our clients need to be able to understand what we are talking about!
