Measure how you met your Mission - Part 2

There were several comments to my earlier post so I thought I'd provide you with the actual mission statement:

 

The SIMMS Team Mission Statement:  To make a significant difference in our clients' lives; to work with people we like; to ensure that our team members enjoy comfortable lifestyles while achieving personal and professional growth; and to always have fun. 

 

At our annual advance we determined that

  • we DID make a significant difference in the lives of several clients;
  • we DID work with people we liked;
  • we DID survive and maintain our comfortable lifestyles, despite the ugly real estate market, so that we can be more comfortable psychologically and financially in the year ahead;
  • we DID achieve both personal growth and professional growth;
  • and we DID have fun together.

                   (Added 10:33 pm: and we keep a framed copy of our mission statement facing out on Amy's desk where each of us will see it as we come into our office suite. Our clients can see it, too.)

May you and your families, teams, companies, colleagues and friends have 

    health in 2008

        financial survival and even thriving in 2008

            friends and family to love and to be loved by in 2008

and may you take time to enjoy life while you have it and can share it; take chances; do what you've always wanted to do; have fun; and create joy and meaning for those around you.

Sharon - this is a nice report. Like you and yours probably, not everything we did met the mission statement above, but everything that mattered did. There are some boneheads out there that are impossible, but it's the nice ones that really made all the difference, and you know they were the very ones we did the best for.

Gary and Richard - you're right, of course. There are always exceptions - but we try to figure out how not to repeat those. Aside from the mission statement correlation, we had ups and downs, as did everyone. We more than doubled our sales from 2006 (which was my worst year in 21, so that's not setting any records) and we increased our average commission rate, but our average sale price declined significantly - paralleling our market.

Very similar to mine, but never thought of implementing it for the whole company.  Wouldn't that be fabulous!  But I still have agents who think they have to make more by working with anyone and everyone.  Funny though, those agents appear to be less successful than the ones who enjoy their clients most.

Astute observation, ARDELL. Loving what you do (and who you do it with) truly does make a difference.  I didn't pass on MY mission statement to the team, it was a joint effort of all four of us to come up with it. It would be harder with a larger group of agents who have varying philosophies of business.
