Water Conservation in Santa Fe

Frequently hotels have cards that say you can choose whether to have your bed linens changed daily or leave them, and whether you want fresh towels daily or reuse the existing towels. They give the guests a choice about water conservation.

The card here at La Posada de Santa Fe Resort & Spa ways

"Pursuant to the City of Santa Fe's Water Conservation Ordinance (Section 25-2.6 SFCC 1987) hotels are prohibited from changing linens more frequently than once every four days for guests staying more than one night. If you need your towels exchanged, please place them in the bathtub."

These people are serious about their water restrictions.

Comments

No big deal.  When I traveled, I generally never had the house-keeping staff in my room more than once a week if I could avoid it.  I'd let them in to make sure that I had not made off with the TV.

You'll know they are serious when they start telling the guests, no water baths, just 'dust baths' !!!

I think this is a great idea.  We're in a major drought here in North Georgia.  I wonder if any of the hotels here are doing this?

Sharon- i feel like saying thanks for the kudos for Santa Fe, NM. I just wish you had posted it on Land of Enchantment also. Perhaps you could edit it to show that link. You make us feel good. We take conservation serious. Albuquerque, just down the road from Santa Fe is now the greenest city since our mayor returned from London with the award for being the greenest city in the world.

Thanks!

Dwight - maybe they'll only put tubs or showers in 1/4 of the rooms ....

Nancy - I hear that Lake Lanier is having a major problem. It would be a good time for hotels to get greener.

Eloise - I wasn't aware of the Land of Enchantment group. I think you have to be a member to post to a group. Feel free to make a group post with a link, if you'd like. That;s interesting that Albuquerque is the Greenest of the Green. Have you posted that to the Green group?

Now that is really impressive and only makes sense! All hotels should follow suit!!!

Barbara-Jo - with all the water shortages in the southeast, I'm surprised they haven't followed suit.

We are in a drought in Maui, the hotels that are conciencious offer to only wash towels when they are in the tub, but I know of one that prides themselves in picking up towels from your room twice a day.

Sharon - very interesting! It is interesting how travelers habits change when they are on vacation and someone else is paying the bills! Silly the things we have come to expect, really!

Sharon~

I'm curious to know if you have any information on what is happening locally in Florida  hotels  ...would love to know if tourists are greeted with 'conserve our water" signs in their hotel rooms.

Karen - I've seen both of these in my travels, but have never seen a city regulation.

Mary - is that the same as tenants use when the utilities are included and their use when they pay their own utilities?

janeAnne - It varies by hotel. Most of them do have requests to "conserve our water" but I haven't seen any municipality with laws like Santa Fe.
