Real Estate Views from St Pete

Modern Day Abe Lincoln

We've been without power for about four hours - an unexpected squall came through. Both sides of our long street are without power, though across the canal the homes are unaffected. Most of that time I was out meeting an electrician to correct some problems on a house scheduled to close tomorrow morning. Just got back, 11 pm (great electrician to come out at 9 pm on short notice), and power is still out.

George is out cooking dinner on the gas grill - we have candles on the table and the counter, and my laptop is battery operated and doing fine. There is a cacophony of beeps coming from all the power backups around the house - after a while they sound like lots of treefrogs.

WOW I wish we could have a power outage for about 4 hours, that would be a break time (maybe even nap time for me) :o)  Enjoy the break, forget the lap top :-D

Sharon, I sure hope you get your power back soon!  I get restless when mine is out but then again, I don't have a laptop!   Yet....

Ewww. We were without power (statewide) when they had the earthquake a while back for about 16 hours. I was miserable! No AC, TV, PC.....I sure appreciate what I have...

Hey...sounds like something romantic going on over there though...have fun!

I lost mine for 9 hours, 3 weeks ago. It fried my ref, microwave, under-ground fence, water cooler, AC, washing machine, garage door opener, Select Comfort power pump, 2 T.V's.......shall I go on. These are not fun, when you lose that much stuff.

Sharon,

Always good to have the gas grill. We make a great cup of Java when the hurricaine knocked our power out. I also bought a 300 watt power inverter that you can plu into the car lighter and watch TV or keep the fridge going.

Katrina - that's one approach. I spent nearly 3 hours of it away from the house meeting an electrician (and yes, I would rather have just enjoyed) and then I wanted to touch base with my AR friends.

Carole - it's always an interesting experience. Many of the neighbors formed groups outside their homes to talk with each other.

Sally - let's see. Here in Florida we light candles in our fireplaces for romance instead of hot fires - I guess if we needed "outside" help for romance we could just switch off the main breaker on our panel!

Missy - Did you get hit by lightning? That's generally what happens in Florida when you lose things - that or a power surge.

Neal - I'd rather have the inverter heat coffee than watch TV. The first thing I missed was the electric ice crusher for my Chivas Mist. When restaurants tell me that they don't have crushed ice, I suggest they put some ice in a bar towel and bang it against the counter. I suggested that to George, but he wasn't as receptive!

After Hurricane Wilma's backlash to us we were without power for 21 days! We had a generator but no A/C. But the wonderful blessing was that a cold front came through at just that time! The phone lines were down for a week and our DSL was out for 2 weeks. No email, no internet. But we still could use Word! Our MLS was down too! No business was done for like a month and buyers were running away from their contracts back to wherever they were coming from! Katerina

Katerina  and Nestor - Being without power for 21 days - Wow!

I remember '04 as the year of the 4 hurricanes. People stopped taking down the plywood over their windows in between the hurricanes.
