The Measure of a Man

I just started reading "The Measure of a Man", an autobiography of Sidney Poitier. I picked this up at an airport bookstore in my travels this spring, and just started reading it.

The first chapters begin with his life on Cat Island in the Bahamas. What poetic prose! He begins by comparing being poor in the Bahamas, with beautiful beaches and colorful sunsets, with being poor in today's concrete jungles.

Usually I wait to talk about a book until I finish it, but this one, I'll recomment just from the beginnings.

Agreed! It is a beautiful book. I have always liked Sidney Poitier and I was so impressed with his writing. Enjoy!

Sharon - I just finished this book and it was awesome.  I love the way he wrote it - just as if he was talking.  Have you finished the book yet?

Cheryl-Anne, No, I haven't finished it yet. I picked it up again today planning to read it in the pool, but didn't get there. Glad you feel it's worthwhile. Yes, I like the way he writes.
