Will Power wins the 2010 downtown St Petersburg Grand Prix

Grand Prix St PetersburgWill Power won the 2010 St Petersburg Grand Prix yesterday, showing lots of will power. This Australian driver for the Penske Team recovered from a broken back to win the first two Indy Races this year, the first in Brazil and the second here in downtown St Petersburg Florida. He had the fastest qualifying times, started in pole position, and won by nearly a second. The St Petersburg Grand Prix brings spring excitement to downtown St Pete - roads and a runway are turned into tracks for this race, streets lined with concrete barriers, tires and high chain link fence. You either love it or hate it!

This year the Grand Prix in St Pete had some completed races on Sunday, but torrential rain and lighning as well as up to 6" of standing water on some parts of the road caused a postponement of the Final Race until 10 am on Monday morning. Monday started out with rain, too, but cleared up so that shortly after 10 the race started.

Bayfront Tower has always been the prime condo location in downtown St Pete for watching the Grand Prix. This year it is joined by Signature Place, the new condo on the block. What a panoramic view of the Grand Prix course from most of the condo balconies!

I would have to say that anyone who can recover from a broken back and come back to win races MUST have an enormous amount of "will power"!

Hi Sharon, Wow, this had to be an amazing event and I would guess it drew lots and lots of people. Will power is often the real difference in any race and he certainly overcame a remarkable obstacle.

Russell - we can all learn from Will.

Thom - all it takes is money and you, too, can have one of those little boats.

Kevin - Thanks for noting the spelling error, which I've corrected.  On Will, no I'm not putting you on.

William - the free admission on the Monday race, due to the delay, brought many people who'd never seen the race live. Luck comes to those who have prepared, and who have staying power and will power.

Roger Jr. and I used to hang out as teenagers so that was an easy one.  I hadn't heard the name Will Power before and thought that's an awesome F1 driver's name.

Kevin - I'm always learning new things about you.  Do you come up and see Roger when he's here for the races, or do you make him go to Naples to see you?

I agree with this research more than any I have seen until now on the internet. I like that it isn't written in snobby language. Thank you so much. I will definitely keep in touch, because I need online papers to solve all my problems.

Sharon - A good friend of mine has a home on Tampa Bay right by 22nd Avenue and we can always hear the cars from her yard!
