The Pinellas Trail

34 miles of recreational trail runs from the south to the north of Pinellas County, along an abandoned railroad right of way. The first section, between Largo and Seminole, opened in 1990. The goal is to have 75 miles of trail opened by 2020. This would be a parallel leg running down the east side of the county. Current plans are to extend the south end of the existing Pinellas Trail into downtown St. Petersburg. The trail is used by about 100,000 people a month - bikers, walkers, runners and bladers. A guide and map is available on the web.

What an outstanding idea.

Is it a private enterprise project or government?
