The Rich are Getting Richer

The annual Capgemini - Merrill Lynch World Wealth Report is just out.

  • 9.5 million people held at least $1,000,000 in financial assets, exclusing their homes.
  • These people control about 25% of the world's wealth.
  • The combined wealth of the world's richest people rose more than 11% last year.
  • The "super-rich" who have over $30 million in assets also rose 11% last year
  • The largest expansion of the richest, over 20% increases, was in India and Singapore.

Sharon,

Great post... however, I think more than 9.5 million people hold more than ONE DOLLARin assets. LOL

Is that a typo?

Amazing statistics, Sharon....I would not have guessed India or Singapore.  Didn't the US used to be up there once?  Thanks for the enlightening post.

Thanks for sharing.  Just goes to show that when you invest your money in appreciable assets, you'll increase your wealth.  Society can learn a lot from the wealthy.

David - I'm looking forward to reading yours as well.

Brad - thanks for pointing out the typo. I've corrected it.

Armando - absolutely correct.

Christine - that's true, but some of the wealthy started from poverty, too.

Carole - yes. Through history the top dog country has always given way to a new #1 power.

Cheryl - some save a lot, some spend a lot.

Christina - we'd all be further ahead if we'd had the knowledge and discipline to invest 10-15% of our income from the time we started working.
