Keeping ActiveRain Blogs

There are some terrific blogs on ActiveRain that are really worth keeping. I don't always remember who wrote them, or when, so I want to keep them myself.  Print them out? Not only does this waste trees, but I never get to filing and the page is effectively lost forever.

If you have Adobe Acrobat (the whole program, not just the reader), you can just "print" the article, but change the printer from your designated printer to Adobe .pdf  and then save it.  I have a big folder called Articles, then subfolders labelled by topic, and then save the blog there. In the same place I save news items or anything else that I'll want to retrieve, by topic.

You can also use SnagIt to save a page, a scrolling window, a selection, etc  -  again you decide where to save it and in what format.

Have you heard of del.icio.us?  It is a social bookmarking site.  You can tag articles and share your tags with others.  I am trying to remember to use delicious on the posts I like and to create my "to do" list with the ideas I get from here.

I like the idea of saving to PDF.  I am considering a book where I print out the good blogs to showcase in my office

I save mine into a Paperport file but I also use del.icio.us so that is a great idea too!

I feel so "last century". There are blogs that I save, but I just cut and past them into Word.

Hi Sharon, I would be great if you could list the names of your favorite posts with the date and author so that we can revisit some of them.

Looks like a great new feature suggestion too.  But del.icio.us is also a great option.

I copy/paste my favorites into Word & only print them when I have to. Otherwise I am able to just pull them up at anytime & re-read them

The beauty of technology.  We choose our own venue to save what is important to us, but we still manage to save the Earth by not killing trees...

Sharon, thanks so much for this little "golden nugget".  I had never thought to do that, and I'd been trying to come up with a way to save those posts that I thought were especially useful.  And now I have a couple of ways to do just that!

Thanks,

Another cool (free) program is Evernote I really like the scolling feature, it's great when you want to get back to something easily. For long term keeping I love Acrobat.

I always wondered why there wasnt a way to "save to favorites" or something. There are many blogs that I wish I could hang on to for reference later. Thanks for this post!

This is an important post, Sharon.

It's almost impossible to find a blog you liked and wanted to use the info later.

Thanks for the input.

I REALLY like Kristin's "save to favorites" idea! Very good blog--and one worth saving.

This is all great information. I've been printing the blogs that I find useful and have made a book where I can refer to the information that I need. Since my computer crashed a few months ago I've felt a need to have a paper trail (sorry about the trees.). I'm going to try snag it.

Funny, I actually found this post by checking through pages tagged with activerain on del.icio.us

Andy - thanks for your comment and the information on the del.icio.us tag. You'll note my rude lack of comments to the commenters - this was from my neophyte AR days and I didn't even know the comments were there - now, of course, any comments come to MY HOME so that I know about them and can respond. I really appreciate it.

Sharon,

I always wondered why you didn't comment!!! I used to think you were one of those point mongers:( That was in the beginning, though. I have seen you comment a lot in the past few months, and now I know that it was because you didn't know they were there. That's a relief to me since you seem like such a great person!

See, I have waited for your comment:)

Karen - I appreciate your comment on my comment. For the last months I have tried to respond to every comment.

Sharon, if you're using the free trial demo of SnagIt (or the paid version), do you somehow need to acknowledge SnagIt as a condition of use?  Any restrictions on business use of the image (like inserting it in a business-related blog)?  Thanks!

Posted by Wayzata Lakes Realty: Eric Kodner Sells Twin Cities Homes almost 4 years ago
Eric - I use the paid version. I haven't heard anything about having to acknowledge SnagIt as a condition of use. I would imagine that using an image would depend on what and how you use it - if you snag a photo or a few lines of text and give the impression that they're yours, that's wrong in my book. If you're illustrating how to use something, probably not. Send an e-mail to Lenn Harley - she's out copyright expert.

I love your idea Sharon.  I do the same thing by keeping a folder in my computer called, "Real Estate Ideas."  When I need a fresh idea or need to do some problem solving, I can refer to the many articles I've saved through the years within that file.  It has worked great.  I use Adobe Professional.

Posted by Tarris Rogers - Bend Oregon Real Estate (Becky Breeze & Company Real Estate) over 2 years ago

Tarris - it's also handy to keep a folder on your computer (or on your flash drive) with blog ideas. I agree with you, Adobe Professional is great!
