Christopher Bean suggests that resident Obama should enhance transparency through the new media and appoint a Secretary of Blogging.
Perhaps this is a bit tongue-in-cheek, but his article in this morning's St Petersburg Times did make reference to an interesting government blog (that's not an oxymoron) for the TSA. It's written with a human voice, not governmentese, and you can learn - and sometimes laugh - about knitting needles, and why a book and wires might look like a bomb on the security screen.

Sharon, I did check out the official White House blog when I was in Paris to look at the dog. I noticed in their video, Michelle and the kids were being pulled around the South Lawn by little Bo, but they left out the shots of Obama flying through the air after the first pooch - although CNN did have that hilarious footage. And yeah, I think there should be a Blog Secretary to work with the Press Secretary!
Now that the FCC isn't reading as many newspapers, why not?
Sharon - could be interesting. But can you imagine the review and approval process? And would there ever be true transparency?
Jeff
The humanization of government speak---now that's a fresh concept.
very soon after that. . .they will have some type of tax for postings. .
Ah well...it might not be such a bad idea! I hope you have a wonderful Mother's day today and best to all of your family!
Hi Sharon, hmmm Please don't tax our blogs, Mr. President! Happy Mother's Day, Sharon!
Sharon- Obama does post YouTube videos which I am impressed by. Oh and he's on Facebook! But I think an Obama Twitter is in order.
I don't want my tax money going to another new gevernment position, unless this postion will be offered to me.
Advanced,
I totally agree with your comment. I would also like the position. A government position that allow's me to blog all day...I'm all over it.
Thanks to all who took time out of your Mother's Day to comment. I had a great day with those of my family who are local: children and a grandchild.
I don't think a blog would be advised. They don't really want to hear from regular citizens about flying a plane around for a photo shoot on public funds. Not enough spin on a blog.
I know this is humorous to a great extent, but how we relate to our government and those in it is changing rapidly. I do feel sorry for people in government whose lives are increasingly scrutinized and scripted. On the other hand they manipulate and work the process too.
I think anything that increases the transparency of the government and that sends real citizen comments to our elected officials is good.
